Lamb Of God Shares Furious 'Memento Mori' Guitar Play Through

Lamb of God has released a rare guitar play through video featuring its dual axemen Mark Morton and Willie Adler performing the song "Memento Mori" from the band's forthcoming self-titled album, due out May 8.

The black and white video depicts Morton and Alder in their respective private jam spaces tearing into the furious new tune. Between the up-close-and-personal shots provided by Adler's headstock camera and the ones of Morton sitting at a mixing desk, you get a very real sense of the pair's technical mastery.

Morton described how the band put together "Memento Mori" in the studio.

"I had been sitting with the music for the intro and the post chorus for quite a while," he explained through a press release. "I was trying to develop those two parts as separate songs altogether and was a little bit stumped, particularly with the intro piece. Me, Willie and Josh Wilbur (producer) were doing demos in the studio and the idea came up to try to mash those parts into the same tune and everything just took off. It was one of those times where once I knew what we were trying to do, the riffs just kind of fell out of me like they were writing themselves. It's always a crazy feeling when that happens. Vocally, Randy heard the intro and said he instantly got a throwback Sisters of Mercy type vibe from it and he took off from there."

"Memento Mori" is the second single from Lamb of God. Morton and Adler also shared a play through of the first single from the album, "Checkmate," which you can watch here.

While it's unclear when this video was shot, Adler appears to be playing his beloved 'Warbird' ESP guitar — the same one that was stolen last summer after a gig in Arizona and later turned up for sale online.

Three men were arrested in connection to the backstage thefts, which included several other instruments, though Adler never confirmed that the guitar was returned.
