Believe it or not, it's been 20 years since Britney Spears dropped her sophomore album, Oops!... I Did It Again.
Over the weekend, the pop titan, 38, celebrated the blockbuster LP, which was released on May 16, 2000, with a compilation video on Instagram. "Thank you to whoever made this ….. I just nearly dropped my phone I wasn’t expecting it 😂😂😂 !!!!! 20 years since the Oops! 😳 album," she captioned the clip, which features a vintage interview. "The anticipation and the butterflies I felt before it came out were crazy …. all of my expectations were exceeded !!!! And it's all thanks to you folks …. thank you for sticking with me and growing with me. I am one Lucky girl ⭐️😉."
Not only did Oops! debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart, selling over 1.3 million copies in one week and setting the record for highest debut-week album sales by a female artist at the time, but it spawned signature Spears hits, including the title track, "Stronger" and "Lucky." Team Britney also announced a number of new pieces of merchandise in honor of the album's milestone, including a commemorative picture vinyl edition of the LP, throwback t-shirts and accessories. Nonetheless, it doesn't appear as if Spears will be releasing new music anytime soon. As per a March report from Us Weekly, the star is attempting her best to set boundaries against her highly-suspect conservatorship, which sees her father, Jamie Spears, control her multi-million dollar estate, any personal affairs and day-to-day tasks since 2008. In the report, a source revealed that the singer has been enjoying her time away from the spotlight and paused work ventures as a way to protest against her father. "Britney has expressed that she doesn’t want to work again because she doesn’t want to continue to essentially keep herself under the conservatorship,” the source revealed. “Britney resents that her dad is given a monthly allowance which is around $10,000 a month for his services overseeing her finances."
