Twitter Has Thoughts After Usher Says Nicki Minaj Is A Product Of Lil Kim

Usher and Swizz Beatz went head-to-head for an installment of a Verzuz battle and the former found himself sharing his take on the trajectory of female rap.
During the conversation as part of the Beatz/Timbaland-curated series, the chart-toppers discussed who should partake in the next battle, to which Swizz mentioned Lil' Kim and Nicki Minaj. It sounds like an appropriate match of artists to compare catalogues, but Ursh wasn't entirely on board with the idea, admitting with some hesitancy that Mianj "is a product of Lil Kim." Naturally, his words struck a chord with longtime Barbz and the age-old debate almost immediately made its way to the Twitterverse. Scroll on below to see what users had to say!
A “product” is way different from “influenced by” that’s disrespectful of him knowing the history behind nicki and Kim.

Lil Kim took all the beatings, so Nicki and everyone else can ride the wave. They should learn to respect the OG!!

With all the remakes/reboots of shows/movies y’all watch, how can you not see that Nicki is a product of Kim?

No one is taking away from Kim’s contribution to hip hop/female rap and yes Nick has said multiple times that she was inspired by Kim, but in the context it seemed as if he was making Nicki out to be a carbon copy of Kim.

I don't understand why people can't give credit where it's due.

I'm tired of seeing Lil Kim & Nicki Minaj comparison tweets. Nobody was thinking about ole girl before Usher opened his hot breath. Nicki is unbothered.

saying lil Kim is better than nicki Minaj is like say Jay z is better than Wayne just because he was rapping first.
