Nirvana's Krist Novoselic Clarifies That He Doesn't 'Support Fascism'

While many artists in the rock community have been expressing their support for demonstrators protesting racial injustice, Krist Novoselic praised Donald Trump's “strong and direct tone” when he threatened military intervention against protestors. Now, the Nirvana co-founder is clarifying his since-deleted statement.

"To clarify a few things: As an avowed independent, I don’t endorse a major party or candidate. And it feels insane to have to say this , but I don’t support fascism, and I don’t support an authoritarian state," he wrote on Facebook. "I believe in a civilized society and that we all have to work toward that. Love and thanks to anyone who cares to read this."

In his original statement, Novoselic wrote “Wow!!! I know many of you can’t stand him, however, Trump knocked it out of the park with this speech." Though he said the president shouldn't send troops into states, he applauded the “strong and direct tone.”

“Most Americans want peace in their communities and President Trump spoke to this desire," the bassist continued. "Never mind the legal details that few understand – Trump said he would stop the violence and this speaks to many.”
