As Disney World prepares to reopen next month, Disney influencers, Instagrammers and reporters have flocked to the resort to share details on what guests can expect on July 11. While there, Disney Food Blog reporters caught site of a nearly unrecognizable Cinderella Castle. In the three months Disney World has been closed to the public, some big changes have been made to the iconic castle.
"WOAH y’all this is not the same castle," Disney Food Blog wrote alongside a photo of the castle on Instagram. Though the photo was taken from a distance, it's clear that the centerpiece of Magic Kingdom has undergone a major makeover in the last few months.
While this new look for Cinderella Castle may be surprising to some Disney fans, the Disney Company actually announced this would be happening way back in February. Jason Kirk, Vice President of Magic Kingdom Park, at the time to share plans of the update with park guests. The changes made to Cinderella Castle were in an effort to honor the 70th anniversary of the film's original release in 1950.
“Cinderella first transformed into a princess 70 years ago this week when the animated classic was released,” Kirk wrote in a blog post, “and ever since, her courage and kindness have been inspiring guests and cast members alike. We are excited to share that her story has inspired a bold, shimmering and royal makeover of her namesake castle at the heart of Walt Disney World Resort.”
That bold, shimmering and royal make over would include a fresh coat of pink-tinted paint, as well as the addition of ornate gold accents. Nearly four months later, Cinderella Castle has gotten that fresh coat of paint and brand new gold accents. It's unclear at this point whether the makeover is complete and whether work will be ongoing when the park officially reopens next month.
