Phoebe Bridgers Thinks Hating The 1975 'Is Sexist'

Phoebe Bridgers was planning to be on tour with The 1975 this year, but like so many other artists their plans got thwarted in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In a recent interview with The Forty-Five, Bridgers — who sings on The 1975's "Jesus Christ 2005 God Bless America" — had some choice words for critics of the band.

“Hating The 1975, I feel like, is sexist," she said bluntly. “Because teenage girls invented that band being famous. Like, teenage girls invented The Beatles. Teenage girls invented music. You’re trying to say that something’s stupid just because teenage girls like it? It’s f**king insane.”

The 25-year-old singer-songwriter recently dropped her sophomore album Punisher a day early, despite many artists delaying releases due to the current state of the world. "I’m not pushing the record until things go back to 'normal' because I don’t think they should. Here it is a little early," she tweeted about her decision. Bridgers gave her latest single "I See You" its live debut on The Late Late Show With James Corden while filming her own rendition of "Carpool Karaoke."

The 1975 also recently released an album, the 22-track opus Notes on a Conditional Form. And though they won't be able to tour on it any time soon, Matty Healy and company have already been announced as a headliner for Outside Lands 2021.
