Directed by Dr. Dre and in collaboration with video artist Arthur Jafa, the almost-four-minute video opens with protest footage and includes clips from his "Saint Pablo Tour," as well as his Sunday Service rehearsals. "Shower down on us/ Wash us in the blood/ Wash us in the blood/ Whole life bein' thugs/ No choice, sellin' drugs," West spits during the track's pre-chorus.
The track will appear on West's forthcoming record God's Country. In his interview with GQ's Will Welch, West spoke about the project's content. "I was thinking of not rapping again, because I rapped for the devil so long that I didn’t even know how to rap for God," the star confessed. "Then one of my pastors told me, 'My son just said that he would want a rap album about Jesus from Kanye West.' He didn’t say, 'Kanye West, you should do this,' or 'you need to do this.' He just told me something that a child said. And that one thing made the difference."
"Wash Us in the Blood" arrives on the heels of West's just-announced partnership with The Gap, a 10-year collaboration aimed at providing YEEZY Gap to men, women and children. To celebrate the partnership, the Chicago native left a handwritten message on a giant mural outside of the Gap store in Chi-Town's Michigan Avenue. "Thank God. Hi Chicago it's Ye," the message read. "This is the Gap store I used to shop at when I would drive my Nissan From the Southside. So blessed. I thank God and I am So humbled at the opportunity to serve I put my heart into the Color palette and every Detail. I love Tron the original. Do you like stuff? I don't know what to do with my hands. Love YZY Yeezy."
