Disney World Tightens Mask Restrictions Following Reopening

Walt Disney World reopened its theme parks earlier this month. The Florida-based resort had been shutdown since the end of March as a result of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Though Magic Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, EPCOT and Animal Kingdom are up and running again, guests will experience a number of big changes if they plan to visit the parks at this time. One of the biggest changes, of course, is the mask requirement in place for all gusts and employees.
While masks have been required in the Disney parks since the reopening, the House of Mouse has been paying attention to what's happening on property and has already update the mask policy twice in recent weeks. Guests are allowed to remove their face coverings while eating and drinking, however, many park-goers were seen walking around with their masks off while sipping a to-go beverage. After noting this behavior, Disney changed its policy to require guest to eat and drink in designated areas.
The latest update sees Disney banning masks with valves, holes and mesh. "Face coverings are intended to reduce the transfer of respiratory droplets, and exhalation valves and materials with holes do not adequately filter air that is exhaled, " the company explains on its website. "At this time, neck gaiters, open-chin triangle bandanas, and face coverings containing valves, mesh material or holes of any kind are not acceptable face coverings."
According to Attractions Magazine, Universal Studios followed in Disney World's footsteps and implemented these policy changes in their own parks, as well. It's like guests will continue to see policies at both amusement parks adapt with the rapidly changing times.
