Naya Rivera’s younger sister, Nickayla, wrote a heartbreaking tribute to honor the late Glee star.
Naya’s body was recovered from Lake Piru in California five days after the actress disappeared during a boat trip with her four-year-old son, Josey, who was discovered safe. As previously reported, it’s believed something went awry on the boat and that Naya, 33, spent the final moments of her life mustering enough strength to save her son before she drowned.
On Sunday (July 26), the 25-year-old took to Instagram to speak about her older sister’s tragic death for the first time.
“Sister, There are no words to describe my love for you. Side by side or miles apart, our connection is infinite,” Nickayla wrote on Instagram along with a heartwarming black-and-white photo of her and Naya. “Our bond is unbreakable. We were complete opposites, yet simultaneously the same. The yin to my yang. I never knew that by losing you, I would find so much of you in myself.”
“I’ve never known a life without you in it & still can’t imagine it,” she continued. “My world is turned upside down. But through it all, everything we were, we are still. I’ll always look at you with the same eyes as I did when I was young. My shmaya, I’ll love you for eternity & miss you every second of my life.”
Hours after sharing her tribute in Naya’s honor, Nickayla also shared another touching Kodak moment of the siblings when they were younger, captioning it with, “i love you.”
Nickayla is the latest of Naya’s loved ones to break their silence on the singer’s death. Naya’s ex-fiance, Big Sean, also shared an emotional tribute dedicated to the star, whom he regarded as a “hero.” Ryan Dorsey, Naya’s ex-husband and Josey’s father, also broke his silence on her unfortunate passing over the weekend.
