Taylor Swift surprised her Swifties with a new version of her latest song, “cardigan.”

The singer-songwriter unveiled her “cabin in candlelight” rendition of the record last night (July 29), pairing the release with behind-the-scenes video footage of the photoshoot she did for the various artwork used for her eight studio album, folklore.

The new interpretation of the song is a limited-time surprise, available as a digital download for 24 hours. Additionally, Swifties will also have the chance to purchase the “cabin in candlelight” version of “cardigan” on CD or vinyl until midnight on July 30.

In case you missed it, the 30-year-old pop star also released the dreamy, nature-filled music video for the original version of “cardigan” last Friday (July 24).

Due to the concerns of the coronavirus pandemic, Swift took extra health and safety precautions when embarking on the visual project. On social media, she explained, "the entire shoot was overseen by a medical inspector, everyone wore masks, stayed away from each other" and added that "I even did my own hair, makeup, and styling."

Speaking of the meaning behind her newest single, Swift told iHeartRadio in a statement, "This is a song that's about long lost love, and looking back on it, and how special it made you feel, all the good things it made you feel, all the pain that it made you feel. And, the line about feeling like you were an old cardigan under someone's bed, but someone put you on and made you feel like you were their favorite."

folklore comes less than a year after the release of her seventh studio album, Lover, which topped the charts upon its release in 2019.
