Snoop Dogg’s new joint pays homage to his late “neffew” Nipsey Hussle.

Hours ago, the Cali legend dropped a tribute song called “Nipsey Blue” to honor the fallen rapper a day before what would have been his 35th birthday (August 15). The bluesy track, which samples Dorothy Moore’s 1979 record “Misty Blue,” sees Snoop crooning along with Moore’s stirring chorus as he mourns his homie.

On the sensitive chorus, the West Coast icon laments, “Oh, homie/ Just the mention of your name/ Makes wanna, paint my game/ Listen to me good, homie/ When I think of the things we used to do/ And my whole world turns Nipsey Blue.”

As fans know, Nipsey was assassinated in March 2019 at the age of 33. His death not only sent shockwaves throughout the entire hip-hop community, but the loss shuddered gang members in Los Angeles who lauded him as the hood’s hometown hero.

“Nipsey Blue” is Snoop’s latest expression of bereavement over Nipsey’s tragic death, as he previously released “One Blood, One Cuzz” just months after the tragedy.

Speaking to Billboard on the song’s unifying message as it relates to Nipsey’s passing, Snoop said, “After Nipsey Hussle passed away, a lot of gang members that hadn't talked in 30, 40 years came together. They really loved each other as friends, but through all the madness and ignorant bulls—t they could never get any conversation going.”

“It's like when the [Los Angeles] riots happened in 1992 and we later made The Chronic,” he explained. “That’s what this track is like, the same feeling. I wanted to have a record that can unify people based off of a tragic event that can lead to some positivity and peace. We all need to be together now: Bloods, Crips, black people in general.”
