A man was arrested Monday (September 21) after he allegedly attacked a 73-year-old man on the Miami Metromover, according to Local 10 on Tuesday (September 22).

Robert Lee Ribbs, 62, who is homeless, waited until a security guard left the train before lunging at Eduardo Fernandez, according to an arrest report.

Authorities said the "unprovoked" attack happened around 6:30 a.m. Sunday (September 20) when the train was near the Adrienne Arsht Center.

Fernandez's son, Christian, told Local 10 that his father was heading to work as a parking valet before the attack happened.

The arrest reported said Ribbs gave a full confession when officers approached him, claiming Fernandez called him "a n*****."

The 62-year-old faces charges of strong-arm robbery, aggravated battery and battery on a person 65 or older.

"Fernandez suffered several broken bones and internal bleeding and is scheduled for surgery Wednesday. He is expected to remain in the hospital for at least two weeks," according to Local 10.

Earlier this month, Andrea Puerta was brutally beaten by an unknown man on the Metromover and was even thrown against the side of a car.

Authorities arrested 25-year-old Joshua James King in connection the incident, where he faced battery and aggravated battery charges.

“To this extent, the Miami Police Department will be deploying additional resources throughout the Metrorail/Metromover system within our jurisdiction, both uniformed and in an undercover capacity in order to increase the safety of our residents and the system’s riders,” Miami Police Chief Jorge Colina said.
