A recent survey suggests Nashville's hotel industry is reportedly among the cities hit hardest by financial losses stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic.
The American Hotel and Lodging Association (AHLA) reports the Greater Nashville area, which also includes Murfreesboro and Franklin, ranked among the top 10 regions in the United States facing financial hardships in the hotel industry, FOX 17 News reports.
According to the report released last month, the Greater Nashville region's hotel industry has a delinquent balance of $347,227,542, which includes 16 loans considered delinquent and a 32.28 delinquency percentage, FOX 17 News reports.
“It’s time for Congress to put politics aside and prioritize the many businesses and employees in the hardest-hit industries. Hotels are cornerstones of the communities they serve, building strong local economies and supporting millions of jobs,” said Chip Rogers, president and CEO of the American Hotel & Lodging Association.
The survey included responses from hotel owners nationwide, which showed half of hotel owners fear they are in danger of foreclosure, while 2/3 believe they can continue business for just six more months at the current rate.
Additionally, 74% said they would have to layoff more employees if they were unable to receive more aid from Congress. AHLA is asking Congress to pass additional stimulus relief for the industry, claiming more benefits will help keep them operations and allow workers to remain employed.
