Jake Owen Celebrates CMA Award-Nominated 'Homemade' Video With Grandparents

Jake Owen earned his eighth career No. 1 hit with his recent single, "Homemade" from his 2019 album, Greetings From...Jake. The song also scored him his first-ever CMA Video of the Year nomination for the 2020 CMA Awards.

Part of the success of "Homemade" can be attributed to the real-life, personal story behind the song. Although Owen didn't write the track himself, he was able to immediately connect to the lyrics which reminded him of his grandparents, Jean and Bryan Yancey Owen, who have been married for over 70 years.

The music video Owen released for the song portrays his grandparent's all-American love story. The clip, which stars Owen as his own grandfather, was set in what looks like the 1940s. The singer recreates special moments from their courtship and life together throughout the video.

"I put a lot of effort into the video for that song," Owen said in a recent interview with the Bobby Bones Show. "I took the exact story of my grandparents and we turned it into a video. It was amazing."

Since Owen's grandparents played such an important role in the vision for "Homemade," it was only right that he celebrate the song's success with them. Owen recently surprised the couple with the official number-one plaque for "Homemade" as a token of his appreciation.

"Homemade," co-written by Bobby Pinson, Drew Parker, Jared Mullins and Ben Goldsmith, is the third single released from Owen's Greetings From...Jake album. The hit single follows his previous singles, "I Was Jack (You Were Diane)" and "Down To The Honkytonk."
