Around 11,000 North Carolina residents received pre-filled voter registration applications with incorrect information like name, address, and date of birth, Civitech said. The company is a technology vendor that works with other companies and campaigns to promote voter registration.

The State Board of Elections issued a statement Tuesday informing residents of the mistake and encouraging them to disregard any mailing they received that has incorrect information, and to review any election-related mail sent by third-party groups. According to the board, Civitech partnered with Print Mail Pro to send voter registration forms to eligible residents.

"This was an isolated incident that affected roughly .3% of the total processed in North Carolina," Print Mail Pro CEO Shelley Hyde. "We have taken corrective action in retraining our staff and have added checks to prevent this from happening again."

Civitech COO Sarah Jackel said the company is sending corrected mailers with blank applications to all who were affected as well as alerting them of the error.

"With a month before the election, voters are likely to see an increase in election-related mailings," said Karen Brinson Bell, executive director of the State Board of Elections. "Carefully review these mailings, and please remember that accurate information about the elections process, including how to register to vote, and how to check you voter registration status, are available at NCSBE.gov."

The last day to register to vote in North Carolina for the upcoming election is Friday, October 9.
