Trey Songz has tested positive for COVID-19. The singer revealed the news in a video posted to his Instagram, explaining that he has been tested a number of times after participating in protests and food drives, where he's been around large groups of people, and because he has a one-year-old son at home to consider — and this time, his test came back positive.
In the video, Songz explained, "Here with a very important message to let you know that I tested positive for COVID-19. I've taken many tests, as I've been out protesting, [and participating in] food drives. Of course, I have a very young son at home, so I get tested periodically, and this time, unfortunately, it came back positive." He continued, "7.5 million Americans have contracted COVID, one out of a thousand Black people have died from it. I will be taking it seriously, I will be self-quarantining, I will be in my house until I see a negative sign. I don't know how many of y'all know, but my grandfather passed earlier this year, and while it wasn't said that it was COVID, I do believe it was. So, I've always taken it seriously.
The singer ended the message by pleading with fans to make sure they take the virus seriously, and urging them, "don't be like the President," who recently left the hospital for COVID-19 treatment to return to the White House and is facing backlash for doing so without a mask on. Songz said, "And, if you come in contact with COVID, please do the same. Please do the same. Don't be like the President. Much love and peace, y'all. Thank you for your support, your love."
Trey captioned the video, "Down but not out! Stay safe y'all! Wear Your mask. Wash your hands."
