A 31-year-old man was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital after he was bitten by a shark at Miami Beach Wednesday (October 7), NBC Miami reported. Officials said a black tip shark bit the man near 10th Street, causing an 8-inch gash below his knee. His identity was not disclosed.

NBC Miami's broadcast showed first responders bandaging the man's leg while a woman held his leg up for elevation. They also said this is the first shark attack in the Miami Beach area this year. The man was transported to Ryder Trauma Center as a precaution, and officials are saying he's in stable condition.

Miami Beach police warned beachgoers to not enter waters near the lifeguard towers between 5th Street and 15th Street due to bait fish schools nearby. Double red flags were also placed along the beach. Officials offered some safety tips to avoid shark attacks as much as possible: don't swim at night, swim in groups, don't enter the water if you're bleeding, stay close to the shore and avoid sudden movements.

Last month, a pregnant woman pulled her husband to safety after he was attacked by a shark in the Florida Keys. There hasn't been updates to his condition since.
