Samiel "Blacc Sam" Asghedom, the brother of Nipsey Hussle and administrator of the late rapper's estate, recently filed a trademark infringement lawsuit against the Crips LLC.

According to TMZ, Sam is suing the Los Angeles-based street gang for the rights to Nipsey's "The Marathon Continues" slogan.

The lawsuit claims the Crips attempted to trademark the phrase "for various services" and clothing in 2019, less than two months after Nipsey's death, despite the late rapper's family "owning several 'Marathon' trademarks of their own related to Nip's well-known clothing store," the outlet reports.

Last year, Sam filed an application to trademark "The Marathon Continues" for uses, including "entertainment services, music, and charitable activities and the doing of good deeds for others and the promotion of ethical and character values." The application came days after the Crips filed to trademark Nipsey's slogan through their holding company.

While the gang initially suggested that they would withdraw the filings, issuing an apology to Nipsey's family, saying, "We respectively vow to support the wishes of Lauren London [Nipsey's longtime girlfriend] and the Asghedom family," they have since justified their "Marathon" trademark application. "The Crips organization has long used the phrase ‘The Marathon Continues’ as our ideology slogan in the past. Ermias [Nipsey's birth name], became a well-known Crip and the phrase became popularized," the Crips claim.

Nipsey's estate is seeking monetary damages and a judgment directing the company to destroy any merch the Crips orginization has made with the slogan, TMZ reports.
