A new report recently ranked the best places to live in the United States, and a few Louisiana cities made the cut. U.S. News analyzed the 150 most populous metropolitan areas in the country, and Baton Rouge and New Orleans ranked 132 and 144, respectively.

Baton Rouge was given an overall score of 5.9, with high marks in the value of living. The desirability of living in the city is tied with its net migration, showing that people are still moving to the area. Home to LSU and avid sports fans, Baton Rouge is also known for competitive jobs in engineering and health care.

New Orleans had an overall score of 5.6. Its desirability also matched the net migration, and the value, job market and quality of life had fairly even scores. As U.S. News reports, "The residents of New Orleans are infused with a resilient and welcoming spirit that celebrates eccentricity, draws out the timid and steadfastly resists outside influences that seek to homogenize them."

Multiple factors went into ranking each city, including the job market, value and housing affordability, quality of life, desirability, and net migration.

Baton Rouge and New Orleans weren't the only Louisiana cities chosen as the best in the country. Other cities include: Lafayette (131) and Shreveport (148). The number one place to live in the country, according to the list, was Boulder, Colorado, followed closely by Denver.
