A 50-year-old man said he had to undergo multiple surgeries after paying for a "full-contact experience" with a black leopard in Broward County. Dwight Turner was attacked by the fully-grown big cat in an enclosure behind a Davie home, Local 10 reported on Wednesday (October 28).

The incident happened on August 31 at a residence on Earnest Boulevard, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). A Facebook page said Michael Poggi, who lives at the address, runs an animal sanctuary for rare and endangered animals.

Investigators said Turner paid Poggi $150 to play with the leopard, "rub its belly and take pictures." The leopard wasn't so eager to be friendly. A report said the animal attacked once Turner was inside.

"The injuries were so severe, the report says the victim’s scalp was 'hanging from his head and his right ear was torn in half,'" Local 10 reported. They also obtained a picture of Turner with his head and ear wrapped up in many bandages.

Authorities said Poggi was licensed to have the leopard. The animal handler also admitted to officials that what he did was illegal. Poggi was charged with allowing full contact with an extremely dangerous animal and was cited for maintaining captive wildlife in an unsafe condition.
