Multiple Sources Report Trump Wins Ohio
November 4, 2020
President Donald Trump has won Ohio, the Associated Press and other sources reported late Tuesday night (November 3).
Fox News, The Blaze and Decision Desk HQ, a non-partisan, election-night data and analysis hub, are among other sources that made the call about the battleground state. The call means Trump is the winner of Ohio’s 18 electoral votes, beating out Democratic challenger and former Vice President Joe Biden.
The outcome reflects Gov. Mike DeWine’s prediction of Trump’s victory in Ohio, including making the prediction hours before the September 29 presidential debate in Cleveland and again on Election Day.
"I think it's going to be a very, very close race and I think the President squeaks it out," DeWine said earlier in the day Tuesday. He continued later, “it's going to be a close race. The President won with a big margin last time. But I think he's going win this time. I think the intensity is there."
The Associated Press shows Trump with 145 electoral votes and Biden with 223 as of nearly 12:30 a.m. EST. A candidate needs 270 electoral votes to win.
The AP broke down how it calls races. It’s expected to call more than 7,000 races, including the presidential race and state races and issues, the organization noted.
“The general public has a more intense desire to understand it at a nitty-gritty level,” Senior Vice President and Executive Editor Sally Buzbee explained in an AP story October 30. “We don’t want to be a dark, mysterious black box of ‘We’re going to declare a winner, and we’re not going to tell you how we do it.’ I don’t think that benefits us, and I don’t think it benefits democracy.”
