Just hours after the Colombian pop star and the R&B crooner appeared to be hinting at a possible collaboration, Maluma surprise-released a new “Hawái” remix featuring the Canadian crooner. The team-up marks the first time the hitmakers have joined forces on a track, which features The Weeknd singing verses in both Spanish and English on the bilingual bop.
“So now he's your heaven/ You're lying to yourself and him to make me jealous/ You put on such an act when you're sleepin' together/ All this 'cause I said I don't want marriage,” The Weeknd opens “Hawái,” leading into the pre-chorus, “I'd rather go half on a baby/ 'Cause at least I know that it's not temporary/ And at least we'll share something that's real/ I can tell that you're just tryna feel.”
“Hawái,” originally released in July, appears on Maluma’s fifth studio album, Papi Juancho. Maluma and The Weeknd’s revamped visual finds the two pop stars dancing and serenading beautiful women at the club, seemingly amid the events of the song’s initial video in which Maluma breaks up with his girl to crash his ex’s wedding.
Fans can't get enough of the song, especially the “Snowchild” musician’s suave cadence in his Spanish verses.
“ABEL CANTANDO EN ESPAÑOL AAAHHHAMSKSYSISKS,” one fan gushed on Twitter, as another raved, “SING TO ME PAPI.”
Maluma’s Papi Juancho track, which served as the second offering from the project, reached No. 4 on the Billboard Global 200 chart. The record’s original music video has garnered a whopping 425+ million views on YouTube since its release.
