Ariana Grande just topped the charts again!
Grande’s reign just won’t let up: the singer-songwriter just bagged her fifth number-one album. With the release of her sixth studio LP, Positions, the superstar celebrates yet another chart-topping achievement on the Billboard 200.
Billboard confirmed via Nielsen Music/MRC Data on Sunday (November 8), Grande’s latest full-length project pushed 174,000 units in its first week alone.
More impressively, Positions garnered the highest one-week performance for an album since bundles no longer became factored into chart and sales rankings. To be precise, 42,000 units of that total sum were not aided by either merch-album bundles or concert ticket-album bundles.
What’s more, the outlet reports, “Positions’ streaming start of 173.54 million clicks is the second-largest streaming week for a non-R&B/hip-hop or Latin album in 2020.” Streaming numbers for Positions place Grande behind Taylor Swift’s folklore, which holds the crown with 289.85 million streams.
As aforementioned, this is the "Motive" singer's fifth studio album to go No. 1. Her previous number-one albums include Yours Truly (2013), My Everything (2014), Sweetener (2018) and Thank U, Next (2019).
The 27-year-old pop star—who dropped the highly-anticipated record on October 30 with little more than a week’s worth of promotion—also made history this year with the album’s lead single, “Positions.” The title track didn’t just debut at No. 1, it set Grande apart from the competition by making her the first artist with five Hot 100 number-one debuts.
