A familiar face is in the running for a seat on President-elect Joe Biden's Cabinet. North Carolina Health Secretary Dr. Mandy Cohen is being considered for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services during the Biden administration. According to POLITICO, Dr. Cohen is one of the top choices along with New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham and former U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy.

Appointed to her role in January 2017 by Gov. Roy Cooper, Dr. Cohen has experience from top universities in the country. She graduated from Cornell University before earning her medical degree from Yale School of Medicine and a master's in public health from the Harvard School of Public Health. She also trained in internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital, according to her profile on the NCDHHS website.

President-elect Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris announced on Monday their picks for a COVID-19 advisory board comprised of public health experts. WCNC reports that the co-chairs of the the board include Dr. Murthy, former Food Drug Administration Commissioner Dr. David Kessler, and Yale University professor and researcher Dr. Marcella Nunez-Smith.

"Dealing with the coronavirus pandemic is one of the most important battles our administration will face, and I will be informed by science and by experts," Biden said in a statement.

Biden was elected the 46th President of the United States. He will be inaugurated on January 20, 2021.
