The Denver Museum of Nature & Science is opening its newly designed "Space Odyssey" exhibit to the public.

The renovated exhibition will open its doors on Friday, November 13, at 9:00 a.m.

The "Space Odyssey" exhibition first came to the museum over ten years ago and has now been reimagined into an immersive space-themed experience that's goal is to serve answers to the question "how do we know that about space?"

Visitors can expect several different interactive activities such as a "Sensory Spacewalk in the new Fantasy Spaceship with over 11,000 starts." The stars are made out of optical fiber that stretch out 43 miles to make guests feel like they're actually in space.

Guests can also drive a rover over the surface of Mars, crash a projectile into a planetary surface, and experience their own body warp spacetime.

By talking with community members, the team behind the exhibit decided to use people's love for science fiction, which inspired these new immersive and educational activities.

"...the Fantasy Spaceship where you sit in the captain's chair on the bridge like something out of Star Trek to work together to explore, experiment, and make decisions," said the museum's experiences & partnerships director Jodi Schoemer.

In order to make sure the opening of the new exhibit is safe amidst the pandemic, visitors are given time slots to enter to make social distancing easier. They've also added a special crew that sweeps through the exhibit as visitors enter and cleans everything again as they leave.

The new and improved "Space Odyssey" is open for exploration starting at 9:00 a.m. on November 13.

The exhibit is included in the general museum admission. You can purchase tickets here.
