The ongoing pandemic has hit the restaurant industry hard throughout the year. While some are narrowly getting by, others have been forced to close permanently. The uncertainty of shutdowns and and layoffs have added anxiety and fear to workers already living through the stress of a pandemic.

That's where Tyler and Angela Black come in. They saw the struggles of those in the restaurant industry and decided use the power of community to help. They created "Tipping in the Boro," gathering donations each week and then distributing the money to local servers.

According to Angela, "Tipping in the Boro" allows them to donate between $200 and $400 each week which, for those who are struggling, goes a long way.

"We had one lady who wasn't able to work because her son has been in the hospital, and it was actually her first day back to work," she said.

Tyler said seeing their reactions when they present the donations makes everything worth while.

"We actually hope it grows more and more to be able to do it more than just once a week, and we have some other ideas too, to do in the future, if it grows big enough," he said.

They post videos each week from when they surprise the workers with the tips. Videos can be found on the "Tipping in the Boro" Facebook page. Anyone interested in donating to the cause can contact their page or donate directly their Venmo @tippingintheboro.
