Gov. Mike DeWine deems Joe Biden the winner of the presidential election.

That declaration comes days after the Republican governor congratulated the Democratic presidential candidate, though he still noted that President Donald Trump has a right to bring up legal matters related to the election. At that time, DeWine encouraged citizens to respect the results of the election.

“I congratulate Vice-President Biden,” DeWine's statement read. “It would appear that President Trump's legal team will be filing legal actions. The President's lawyers have every right to present evidence in court on any legal issues or irregularities involving the election, and the courts are the proper place to hear evidence on these issues. When lawsuits have concluded and election results are certified, it is important for all Americans to honor the outcome.”

Nearly a week after the Associated Press and other sources called the presidential race for former Vice President Biden, DeWine acknowledged Biden as the President-elect during an interview with John Berman on CNN.

Berman tweeted a video clip of the exchange Wednesday (November 12).

“As you sit here this morning, who do you think won the Presidential election?” Berman asked in the interview.

“I think that we need to consider the former vice president as the president-elect,” DeWine answered. “Joe Biden is the president-elect.”

DeWine, a former prosecutor still added that Trump has “every right to go into court.”

DeWine predicted multiple times — hours before the September 29 presidential debate in Cleveland, and again on Election Day (November 3) — that Trump would win Ohio, as he did in 2016.

Sources confirmed that prediction late on Election Night.

Trump has yet to concede as of Thursday afternoon (November 12).
