Meghan Markle Isn't Interested In Going 'Back To Royal Life' After Leaving

Despite some royal watchers hoping to see Prince Harry and Meghan Markle resume their official roles in the Royal Family, Sean Smith, author of the biography Meghan Misunderstood, believes there is "absolutely not" a way for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to return. Not only that, Smith also believes Meghan wouldn't even be interested in returning to royal life if the opportunity presented itself.
“Meghan is an American woman who, when she went back, the first thing she said practically was ‘it’s good to be home,'" Smith told Yahoo UK. “Why would she want to give that [freedom of expression] up to be a royal Stepford wife?”
While Meghan may not want to return to life in the palace, Smith said Harry may be "a different case" because he was "born royal and is the Queen’s grandson." Even though Harry may be more open to returning to royal life one day, he would have to move past his differences with his family first. “The way he was stripped of his military titles was ridiculous," Smith said of Harry losing his military titles after stepping down. "Maybe they should share them out but I don’t think anyone who has seen how much he cares about his comrades and wounded comrades would be in any doubt that he would be a great addition to that field ongoing.”
Harry was also unhappy with the way his family reacted when Meghan was being bombarded by the British tabloid press. “It went wrong with the press coverage of her. Here was a 35-year-old self made millionaire, a woman who had been an activist, still is, for female empowerment, racial equality, and she was described as a ‘saucy divorcee,'" Smith recalled. “It clouded the British public’s view.”
The Duke of Sussex did his best to protect and defend Meghan from the media frenzy, however, Smith thinks the situation would have played out much better if the other senior royals had done the same. “There are three royals that really matter - the Queen and the two future kings," Smith explained. "If one of them had said ‘this is not the way to go’ it would have stopped but they did not."
Meghan and Harry's life as non-royals is set to undergo a review by the palace in March 2021—one year after they stepped down from their official roles. As the Sussexes gear up to launch their new foundation Archewell, though, it doesn't seem like they have any plans to return to their old life at the moment.
