Sacramento received its first shipment of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine on Tuesday (December 15) morning.
The shipment arrived at UC Davis Health in Sacramento.
"Our initial shipment of #COVID19 vaccine is here! Packed in dry ice and delivered by @FedEx. It's now on its way to our ultra-cold storage freezer, soon to be given to frontline staff from @UCDavisEM," tweeted UC Davis Health.
The vaccine's arrival in Sacramento comes just a day after the first shipments arrived in California and other states around the U.S.
This first shipment of doses will be used to vaccinate frontline health care workers and hospital staff.
We received 4,875 doses of the #COVID19 #vaccine. Five hundred doses (or 100 vials) are now being thawed in a small refrigerator in the room where frontline hospital staff will be vaccinated within hours. pic.twitter.com/OmNDqJB1bW

Out of Pfizer's 2.9 million doses, over 325,000 are being sent to California. According to UC Davis Health, they receive 4,875 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine on Tuesday.
Twenty-four additional sites will also receive the vaccine on Tuesday and five more will receive their shipment on Wednesday, December 16.
Although this is certainly a moment for celebration, Governor Gavin Newsom warned California that we are still "in the midst of the worst moment of this pandemic."
"Today, we received as many doses in the entire state of California as there were new cases in the state of California, over 33,000 new cases," said Newsom.
After FDA approval, Moderna plans to send their vaccine across the state in the next couple of weeks.
