Mindy Kaling Reveals The Hollywood Stars Who Inspired Her Children's Names

Earlier this year, Mindy Kaling welcomed her second child, a son named Spencer, into her family. Spencer joins Mindy's first born, a daughter named Katherine, who was born in 2017.

While chatting with People, Mindy revealed the surprising inspiration behind her children's monikers. It turns out, Mindy looked to two classic Hollywood icons for name inspiration. The actress decided to pay trbute to the "incredible" Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy when picking out names.

Mindy also spoke about her desire to stay away from the Hollywood trend of picking unusal names for her kids. "I don't trust my own judgment with those kinds of names," she said. "If I name my son River, that connotes a certain kind of person who is very go with the flow, artsy. But what if he's not like that at all? Will he be furious with me?"

Ultimately, though, Mindy said she "just tried to pick classic names" that her kids "would have to work really hard to get mad at me about later."
