Drew Brees Is Back: Saints QB Reportedly Set To Start Against Chiefs

Drew Brees is reportedly set to start in the New Orleans Saints game against the current Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs at Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Sunday (December 20). This will be the veteran quarterback's first game since sustaining multiple injuries last month that forced him to take a step back.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the news on Twitter Friday morning after a source told the media outlet Brees would be the starting quarterback. The team believes the 41 year old is fully healthy and said doctors have cleared him to play.

The longtime quarterback has missed four games after he suffered from 11 rib fractures and a collapsed lung during two games in November, 4WWL reports. His last game was the team's win against the San Francisco 49ers, where he took a hard hit from defensive tackle Kentavius Street during the second quarter.

According to Schefter, Brees' return means Jameis Winston will continue as the team's No. 2 QB, and Taysom Hill will continue his "Jack-of-all trades" role, including some plays as QB. Hill took over as starting quarterback during Brees' absence, leading the team 3-1.

New Orleans is currently 10-3 on the season and second place in the NFC South. They hope to clinch the title for the fourth straight time this weekend with a win against the Chiefs or with a Tampa Bay loss.
