Shawn Mendes Finally Addresses His Rumored Feud With Justin Bieber

Shawn Mendes officially set the record straight on his so-called rivalry with Justin Bieber.

The “Wonder” singer became the latest star to go undercover this week when he appeared on GQ's YouTube channel to answer some of the Mendes Army’s most pressing questions about him on social media. During the nine-minute sit-down, the pop star created dummy accounts on Twitter, YouTube, and TikTok to answer random questions concerning everything from girlfriend Camila Cabello’s influence on his songwriting to his coveted hair routine.

Another fascinating part of the episode found Mendes responding at length about his alleged feud with Bieber. Surprised to see that the Canadian crooners had linked up on their new collaboration “Monster,” one curious fan wanted to know whether the stars “weren’t friends at one point,” referring to a September 2015 interview in which the Biebs revealed he didn’t know who Shawn was.

Mendes, who spoke about his love for Bieber recently this year, had no issue addressing the speculation about where they stand today.

“Justin and I were never enemies. We were maybe not friends,” the “Lost in Japan” star replied. “I mean, yeah, I guess I wasn’t texting and being like, ‘Yo, how you doing today?’, but we were never enemies, absolutely, and that’s kind of something that people maybe might’ve turned it into at some point. And when he made the video and he was like, ‘Who’s— who Shawn Mendes?”, he said he really genuinely didn’t know who I was, and I believed him. So whatever, maybe he did and he was trying to bug me either way.”

“But I mean, honestly, I really love him," Mendes added, concluding, "He’s been so sweet, and super gracious and giving with his advice and with his energy, so he’s a good friend.”
