A little kindness goes a long way.

In a turbulent year marked by the COVID-19 pandemic, a polarizing election and other unexpected events, Americans are still being helpful and generous in their own way. Some people may be more generous than others -- depending on where they live.

WalletHub did a study on 100 U.S. cities to see which ones are the most caring in 2020. Caring can be expressed in various ways, so the personal finance website looked at various indicators for their rankings -- from community work to workplace assistance.

Six cities based in Florida made the list! Here they are below:

  • Jacksonville (No. 56)
  • Tampa (No. 63)
  • St. Petersburg (No. 67)
  • Orlando (No. 78)
  • Hialeah (No. 89)
  • Miami (No. 90)

One city in particular got a shoutout from researchers: Jacksonville! The study said it was among the cities that had the highest percent of population doing favors for neighbors and the highest percent of income donated to charity.

"As a whole, Americans have shown their care through charitable giving more and more," writer Adam McCann said. "However, even if you can’t afford to give away your income – especially during the difficult conditions of this year – there are plenty of other ways to show kindness to others."
