The Toledo Police Department participated in a unique pursuit last week.
Toledo Police officers Tucker and Schroeder spent 45 minutes chasing and rescuing a rogue pig that went loose in a local neighborhood, the department announced on its Twitter account on December 10.
Bodycam video footage shows the officers and several others surrounding the pig in a front yard before an officer tackles the small pig and places him down to "destress" after the animal let out several loud squeals. The pig was eventually transported safely to the Toledo Humane Society.
"Pork Pursuit! Sometimes chasing a loose pig through a neighborhood for 45 minutes is all in a day’s work for #toledopolice," the Toledo Police Department tweeted last week. "Thank you to the many residents that helped Ofc Tucker & Ofc Schroeder corral this little guy. He’s now safe at the @ToledoHumane Society."
Morgan Korecki of the Toledo Humane Society told 13ABC that the pig was getting plenty of attention from the local community, noting that the pig, which they named Carl, was reported to be on the loose and running through Vaness Street for nearly three days.
“He seems healthy, he might not be the happiest because he was on the run and he’s not anymore. But as of right now, he seems to be doing just fine here,” Korecki told 13ABC.
A Toledo Police spokesperson told 13ABC that officers only see loose farm animals about two or three times annually.
