A Tennessee woman is facing charges for allegedly stealing her grandchild's Christmas present from underneath the family's tree.

Over the weekend, Scott County Sheriff's Office arrested 43-year-old Amy Best of Oneida after she reportedly took a present and pawned it at a local shop. According to the department, Detective Lisa Anderson responded to the December 18 report and eventually located a Nintendo Switch gaming console at the Winfield Pawn Shop, identifying Best as the culprit of the theft.

Best was taken into custody and booked into Scott County Jail where she faces charges of theft under $1,000. Her bond was set at $7,500.

The victim at the Oneida residence filed a report on December 18 notifying law enforcement of the theft, claiming that multiple items were stolen from underneath their family's Christmas Tree. Detectives continue to investigate the incident to find the stolen items and determine if Best is responsible.

"It's a sad day and time to see charges like this at such a special time of the year for special people, including children. We won't stand for it," said Scott County Sheriff Ronnie Phillips. "We appreciate Detective Anderson's noble work and we will continue to [commit] ourselves to these investigations."
