Poll: New Year's Is The Worst Hangover Day Of The Year For Wisconsinites

New Year’s Day is the worst hangover day of the year.

That’s how Wisconsinites responded to a recent poll by AlcoholRehab.com, an American Addiction Centers, Inc. resource that offers information on substance and alcohol abuse and addiction treatments.

Here are the worst hangover days of the year for Wisconsinites:

  • New Year’s Day
  • The day after Fourth of July
  • The day after St. Patrick’s Day
  • The day after Thanksgiving
  • Christmas Day, after Christmas Eve celebrations
  • December 26, after Christmas Day

One in 10 Wisconsin residents who responded to the poll said they’ve spent an entire day bedridden with a hangover after a holiday. The AlcoholRehab.com poll also showed that 5 percent of those who responded said they ruined Christmas celebrations because of hangovers, CBS 58 reports.

AlcoholRehab.com experts advise not to continue to consume alcohol during a hangover because the increase in blood alcohol content is more likely to intensify hangover symptoms than calm them. About 12 percent of responders said they continue to drink to combat their hangover, CBS 58 notes.

As 2020 comes to a close, WalletHub recently ranked the best cities to (responsibly) ring in the New Year.

The personal finance site released its study earlier this month, comparing the 100 biggest cities in the U.S. on 15 “key indicators of an enjoyable New Year’s celebration.” That includes safety, COVID-19 cases, food delivery options, costs and others, according to WalletHub.

Madison and Milwaukee both made the list, coming in at No. 18 and No. 76, respectively.
