This Is Where Massachusetts Ranks Among 'Most Moved From States In 2020'

Massachusetts is reportedly among the states in which more residents moved away from than moved in last year.

According to a study by United Van Lines, about 56.6% of state-to-state migration was outbound from Massachusetts in 2020, making the Bay State the eighth most outbound state in the U.S.

The data showed percentages for several primary reasons for moving including 24.24% of retirement, 4.92% for health, 24.24% for family, 19.70% for lifestyle and 35.23% for jobs. Outbound age ranges included 13.28% for 18 to 34, 16.80% for 35 to 44, 14.45% for 45 to 54, 25% for 55 to 64 and 30.47% for 65 to older.

Outbound income ranges included 5.9% for salaries from $0 to $49,999, 10.65% for $50,000 to $74,999, 13.02% for $75,000 to $99,999, 21.30% for $100,000 to $149,999 and 49.11% for $150,000 or more.

Several other northeastern states also accounted for many of the top outbound states in 2020, with New Jersey and New York ranking first and second, respectively, as well as Connecticut ranking fourth and Maryland ranking 10th.

There was also a similar pattern for top inbound states. Many northwestern states were featured on the list, with Idaho ranking as the most inbound state, Oregon ranking third and South Dakota ranking fourth.

Several southeastern states were also included with South Carolina ranking second, North Carolina ranking sixth, Tennessee ranking seventh, Alabama ranking eighth, Florida ranking ninth and Arkansas ranking 10th.
