Oregon politicians confirmed their safety after protestors breached into the U.S. Capitol Wednesday afternoon (January 6). Some had comments for the actions of these individuals and federal leaders.

"My staff and I are safe and sheltering in place in a secure location. We will continue following the guidance of U.S Capitol Police and recommend others in the area do the same," U.S. Senator Ron Wyden tweeted. Reporters said Rep. Kurt Schrader is also safe.

While some assured the public about their safety, others spoke out against the unrest unfolding in Washington D.C.

According to KATU, Rep. Peter DeFazio said he was safe but "horrified" at what happened at the Capitol. "I am safe, but I am horrified at the dangerous actions of those now storming the Capitol in an effort to overturn the will of the people. This is nothing short of a direct assault on our democracy," he said.

Rep. Earl Blumenauer called the people who stormed Capitol Hill "domestic terrorists" on social media.

"The people storming the U.S. Capitol building right now are domestic terrorists emboldened by Trump and every Republican who has spread lies about the results of the presidential election. This has to stop," Blumenauer wrote in a Tweet.
