115th Fighter Wing Honors Wisconsin Pilot Who Died In Michigan F-16 Crash

The 115th Fighter Wing honored Capt. Durwood “Hawk” Jones on Saturday (January 9), as his remains returned to Wisconsin.

Jones, 37, died in an F-16 crash in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula on December 8. He is survived by his wife and two young children.

The 115th Fighter Wing shared a statement to honor Jones on Saturday, when it planned Jones’ hero’s welcome:

“Airmen from the 115th Fighter Wing lined Sloan Boulevard to honor Major Durwood "HAWK" Jones.”

“Jones, 37, lost his life in an F-16 crash in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula Dec. 8. Today, Jan. 9, his remains were flown back to Truax Field, giving his family and friends from the 115th a chance to give him our last respects.”

“As the processional drove off base, each and every Airman was able to say good-bye with one final salute.”

“Thank you to our community members for all of your support. Your comments on each post, your prayers and your direct messages sending hope during this tragic time have helped so much. Thank you for being there for us, and more importantly, for supporting the Jones family.”

“The road ahead may be a long one, but for now we can rest in comfort knowing Major Durwood "HAWK" Jones is watching over all of us.”
