A new app is offering New Orleans residents a unique way to fill up their gas tank — by having someone else bring the fuel to the car.

With more cars being stolen and carjackings occurring more frequently around the city, Yoyo Nabut knew something had to change. After conversations with his mom brought up concerns about her safety, he was inspired to create a convenient, safer way for people to fuel up.

"The main reason was I hated the fact that my mother would call me and say, 'Stay on the phone while I pump my gas,'" said Nabut.

Fuel Up NOLA took three years to complete but the gas delivery service app launched last week. It currently serves the Southshore, from New Orleans East to the river parishes, but soon plans to open service to Northshore. Whether you're at work or at home, a hazmat-certified driver will fill up the tank for you.

"Our method is park, pin, pop," he said. "So park your car, pin the location, and pop your gas tank."

The service is available for a one-time delivery fee of $4.99 or an unlimited monthly membership (up to four cars) for $19.99. Each customer will also have to pay for the gas itself, which is based on the nearest fueling station.

Fuel up NOLA is available on the Apple App Store and Google Play.
