Will There Be A 2021 San Antonio Fiesta? Here's What We Know So Far

The year is still young, but San Antonians want to know if there will be a Fiesta this year.
Currently the Fiesta San Antonio Commission is examining the options. This month it hired public health policy expert Dr. Martin “Marty” Makary to help it in its decision making.
"Fiesta is an important community tradition. The safety of attendees, volunteers and staff are an important prerequisite," Makary, a professor at John Hopkins School of Public Health, said in a statement.
It'll be up to the commission to decide if Fiesta will happen at all and its schedule. It's traditionally held in April, but delaying Fiesta could be a possibility.
“We don’t know what an alternative date would be. We don’t want to rush into it,” Commission President Baltazar “Walter” Serna told the San Antonio Express News.
A number of factors will influence Fiesta's timing, including COVID-19's local spread, the vaccine rollout, and state and federal regulations.
There's no guarantee that Fiesta will happen, but the commission stresses that following local health protocols increases the chances that it will.
“If we work together, now, to successfully implement COVID-19 safety protocols, i.e., mask wearing, social distancing, etc., we believe Fiesta events will occur in 2021," Serna said.
