Pop Smoke appears in the trailer for the upcoming film BOOGIE.

On Tuesday (January 19), Focus Features released the coming-of-age film's first full-length trailer, which finds Pop playing Monk, the basketball rival of the main character AlfredBoogieChin, played by newcomer Taylor Takahashi.

BOOGIE was filmed prior to the late rapper’s death in February 2020. Months after his passing, BOOGIE director Eddie Huang (author of Fresh Off the Boat) spoke of Pop making his posthumous acting debut in the film.

“A lot of actors just don’t have the depth of emotion and experiences, but because of what Pop’s gone through, he has a tremendous well to draw from," he told The New York Times in June. “He gave me a thousand percent. They were tough 16-hour days, overnights, and he shot five overnights in a row. Kids were coming on the bridge to watch us shoot the scenes. We would play Pop’s record. All our actors, the extras, the kids on the bridge watching us shoot scenes, everyone was doing the Woo dance. It was pretty special.”

Along with Taylor and Pop Smoke, BOOGIE stars Taylour Paige, Pamelyn Chee, Mike Moh, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., Alexa Mareka, and Perry Yung. It will be released on March 5th.

Pop was fatally shot at a property he was renting in Hollywood Hills on February 19.

In July, three men and two juveniles were arrested in connection to his murder. While early reports suggested that Pop was the victim of a home invasion, investigators said in July they were looking at all possible motives, including the "Dior" rapper being the victim of a targeted hit.
