Mendota graduate Danny Trejo has been picked 14th overall by the Los Angeles Football Club in the first round of the Major League Soccer (MLS) SuperDraft.
The LAFC announced Trejo's pick in a tweet on Thursday, January 2.
Before moving onto the men's soccer team at California State Univerity, Northridge, Trejo broke records as a superstar senior.
In 2017, he broke the California record of 192 goals scored by a boys soccer player with 193 career goals.
During his high school career, Trejo was a star soccer player while maintaining a 3.7 GPA.
In college, Trejo was selected as CSUN's 2019 Big West Scholar-Athlete of the Year. In 2019, he was also one of 40 players selected for the inaugural Adidas MLS College Showcase at the end of the 2019 season.

After deciding to forgo his senior year at CSUN, Trejo declared for the Draft, reports ABC30.
This is the first time a CSUN player has been selected in the MLS Super Draft since 2016, according to CSUN Athletics. Trejo is only the second Matador to be picked during the first round.
When ABC30 asked the player to give a message to other kids from small Central Valley towns, Trejo said this:
"Doesn't matter when you're from, if you have a dream stick through it. Make sure you stay true to the game, and if you don't the game the game will give you the reward you deserve."
