Here's Where Florida Ranks Among The Safest States During COVID-19

Going into 2021, the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has put safety at the forefront of Americans' minds. Despite vaccines being administered throughout the country, only 0.62 percent of the population have been fully vaccinated as of January 20, according to the Centers for Disease Control.

Statistics aside, some states may be safer than others. WalletHub looked at all 50 states and the District of Columbia to compare them. Analysts looked at rates of COVID-19 transmission, hospitalizations, death and more.

With that said, where does Florida rank?

According to the website, the Sunshine State came in the No. 24. So, the state's COVID-19 response is middling -- not the worst, but not the best. Florida also didn't stand out in the data, unlike its neighboring states. Alabama (No. 50) and Georgia (No. 46) were considered some of the worst states when it came to virus-related safety.

Here are the Top 10 states researchers considered safest during the pandemic:

  1. Alaska
  2. Vermont
  3. Colorado
  4. Montana
  5. North Dakota
  6. Hawaii
  7. Iowa
  8. Utah
  9. Minnesota
  10. Missouri

"Safety is also essential for getting the economy back on track, as the lower COVID-19 transmission and deaths are in a state, the more that state is able to eliminate restrictions on businesses," Adam McCann said. "We’ll only be able to fully get back to life as normal once most of the population is vaccinated against coronavirus, and it will still be months before we can achieve that."
