A flood advisory is in effect for Fresno, Madera, Merced, and Mariposa counties as rain totals in the foothills are expected to reach four to five inches by Friday, January 29.

Heavy rain, high winds, and freezing temperatures have been ongoing throughout Central California this week.

Caltrans crews shut down Highway 168 from Shaver Lake to Huntington Lake on Thursday, January 28, because of heavy snow, according to ABC30.

A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for the Sierra Nevada and adjacent foothills until 10:00 P.M. tonight. Officials expect six to ten feet of snow above 4,000 feet and five to 10 inches of snow above 2,000 feet.

The rain totals in the foothills are causing concern over the possibility of flooding and mudslides.

In addition to rain in the foothills, the Central Valley could also see two to three inches of rain which may cause minor flooding.

High winds during the storm on Tuesday night (January 26) caused damage by knocking down several trees across Central and Northern California.

ABC30 reported that Tuesday's storm caused about 4,000 PG&E customers in the foothills north of Merced and almost 200 in the Fresno area foothills to lose power. Many residents are still in the dark, according to PG&E.
