Texas Police Chief Arrested, Resigns After 'Double Life' Outed On Facebook

A married police chief in the small Texas town of Stinnett lost his job and is facing criminal charges after a Facebook post by his alleged mistress went viral.

The scandal started for Jason Collier when Cecily Steinmetz posted on Facebook that Collier is living "a double/triple life." In her post, Steinmetz wrote that Collier was her boyfriend and he'd visit her in Amarillo, which is 60 miles southwest of Stinnett, while he was working.

Steinmetz attached photos of her and Collier together, a photo of him and his wife, and allegedly faked annulment papers.

"He is a poor representative of your town," Steinmetz posted on the City of Stinette's public page.

On Wednesday, city officials placed former police chief Collier on administrative leave. On Friday, the city announced that Collier resigned from the Stinnett Police Department.

The city is investigating Collier "for possible violations of city employment policy."

On Thursday, Collier was arrested by the Texas Rangers and held at the Hutchinson County Jail. The Hutchinson County District Attorney’s office asked the Texas Rangers to open a criminal investigation into Collier, myhighplains.com reported.

“Collier allegedly sent a text message to the victim with a fraudulent government record attached. The document was a fraudulent marriage annulment,” Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Cindy Barkley said.

Collier was charged with with tampering with a government document with the intent to defraud, which is a state felony.
