California Highway Patrol officers say over a dozen cars were impounded after breaking up Sacramento sideshows over the weekend.

With assistance from Air-21, officers were able to track down the illegal sideshows happening around Sacramento, including one that took place in a parking lot off of Del Paso Road.

Cameras caught dozens of people at the sideshow, prompting a chase when officers moved in to break up the drivers, according to CBS13.

Although they tried to escape by racing down Interstate 5, Air-21 was able to easily follow the suspects. CHP says the air units helped them out with two pursuits that led to arrests.

In total, officers impounded 15 vehicles at the sideshows. An additional 18 people were issued citations.

CHP says an arrest for DUI and one for gun possession were also made when they broke up the sideshows.

Sideshows have been a problem for police officers in Sacramento since 2019.

Last year, several police departments from neighboring cities came together to impound over 20 cars and issue over 50 citations at sideshows throughout Sacramento County.
