A COVID-19 outbreak at a Colorado ski resort has resulted in over 100 employees infected, reports CNN.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) announced the outbreak took place at Winter Park Resort in January. The data was released in their weekly outbreak summary on Wednesday, February 10.

"It has been determined that these cases have not been traced back to transmission through interaction with visitors but, rather, from social gatherings outside of the workplace and congregate housing," said Grand County officials in a statement with the resort.

There are at least 109 active infections among employees.

While other ski resorts have reported COVID-19 outbreaks, Winter Park currently has the largest based on CDPHE data.

"We have been working closely with public health authorities since the pandemic began," said the resort's communications manager Jen Miller. "We did extensive planning and had to get approval from the state on our operations before we could open on December 3."

Miller repeated that most of the cases have been traced to social gatherings outside of the workplace.

However, CNN reports that some visitors claim mask mandates were not being enforced at the resort.

"We've done extensive work and continue to evolve our operations as necessary," said Miller when asked about the claims. "I can't speak to one's individual's experience, but we do appreciate feedback and will continue to make modifications with the health and well-being of our employees, guests, and community as our top priority."
