Several neighborhoods throughout Broomfield were showered with metal after a nearby plane malfunctioned on Saturday, February 20.
The United Airlines Flight 328 had just taken off from Denver International Airport (DIA) when its right engine failed, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The malfunction caused several other parts of the plane to break off. The debris landed in front yards, roofs, roads, and parks throughout the city as the plane returned to DIA.
Broomfield Police told 9NEWS they began getting numerous reports that residents had heard a loud noise and saw what they believed to be a plane going down.
One passenger on the flight was able to get a video of the plane's engine catching fire.
According to CNN, the plane was headed for Honolulu.
Preliminary findings from the National Transportation Safety Board's (NTSB) examination showed that the Pratt & Whitney PW4077 engine had two fractured fan blades.
Following the incident, Boeing has recommended the suspension of 777s that have Pratt & Whitney 4000 engines. United Airlines has already pulled them since Saturday.
Both the FAA and the NTSB are currently still investigating the incident.
There were 231 passengers and 10 crew members on board, according to United Airlines. Luckily, there were no reported injuries.
