A woman is facing charges for allegedly crashing her vehicle into a Miami Beach food market and nearly hitting a homeless woman, according to NBC 6.
Reporters said the crash happened Tuesday (February 23) at Fernandez Food Market on Washington Avenue and 14th Street. A video captured by a witness shows a woman casually grabbing her belongings after the crash.
"Don't put your backpack on, ma'am, you almost killed that homeless lady," Brian Prahl, the witness, is heard telling the woman. She was identified as 27-year-old Sharon Martinez-Lazaro, of Los Angeles, according to reporters.
"I don't even know if she was in shock," Prahl told NBC 6. "She was more concerned about her designer bag, her stupid backpack she put on. I was like, why are you putting your backpack on? Now you're going to flee the scene."
An arrest affidavit shows Martinez-Lazaro did leave the scene. An Uber driver allegedly told her to get in a Chrysler, and she reportedly got in the back seat, reporters learned. Miami Beach police officers later found the getaway car driving off the beach on I-395.
Both Martinez-Lazaro and Bobby Stone, the alleged getaway driver, were arrested and since posted bond. Martinez-Lazaro was charged with leaving the scene of an accident and property damage. Stone faces one charge of accessory after the fact.
